There are two ways to organize a trip abroad. One is considered a free mover. As a free mover, you have to organize everything yourself. On the other hand, is the ERASMUS program. There you can apply for study trips and will get some financial help. You can find general information about this on the [International Office site](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/international/studieren-im-ausland/allgemeine-informationen/).
-**`Important`**: No matter if you go through the ERASMUS or Free Mover way, you **NEED** to clarify with the Fachstudienberatung or Prüfungsausschuss if you can get course credit for the courses you take abroad. Even if it seems like it's a course that is identical to one in your program here, it's crucial to still make sure you can get the credit BEFORE you go.
- Find more info about this [here](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/studium/pruefungsamt/allgemeine-infos-fuer-studierende/anrechnungen-von-leistungen/).
You can find a list of past experiences from MCS/HCI students along with partner universities on [this website.](https://mcs.phil2.uni-wuerzburg.de/international/outgoing/)
We will now go over the two ways:
## Free Mover (PROMOS) for outside EU or ERASMUS
- As a free mover it is much harder to organize your trip. You will need to find and apply for a program yourself, pay for your tuition and make extra sure that you can get course credit.
- As long as you are still enrolled at JMU you can apply for PROMOS, when going to a country that's not in ERASMUS. You will have to organize your program and studies yourself, but can apply for [PROMOS](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/en/international/studieren-im-ausland/promos-scholarship/) funding.
* NOTE: PROMOS can also be applied for if you do your internship in the Masters in a foreign country.
- You also need a learning agreement between University of Würzburg and the University you want to go to. You can find this document [here ](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/international/studieren-im-ausland/bewerbung-formulare-downloads/)and a specific manual [here](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/fileadmin/33170000/2023/Digital_Learning_Agreement_Instruction_for_students.pdf).
## ERASMUS: For students taking a Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree program in the EU
* You need to take an ERASMUS Online language test before applying
* Find out where you CAN go [here](https://wuerzburg.adv-pub.moveon4.de/home-page-1721/)
* You also need a learning agreement between University of Würzburg and the University you want to go to. You can find this document [here](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/international/studieren-im-ausland/bewerbung-formulare-downloads/) and a specific manual [here](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/fileadmin/33170000/2023/Digital_Learning_Agreement_Instruction_for_students.pdf).

<tr>
<td>Find another lab</td>
<td>
* First you have to figure out where you want to go.
* For this check different mailing lists or department websites of researchers you are interested in working with.
* Generally: if there's a researcher you want to collaborate with, just mail them and ask if they have capacities for an intern.
</td>

</tr>
<tr>
<td>Funding</td>
<td>
* You can secure funding by applying for [PROMOS](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/en/international/studieren-im-ausland/promos-scholarship/).
***You can NOT get Auslandsbafög for the internship. They only sponsor internships with a mandatory minimum of 12 weeks, but ours is eight-weeks, so funding is not possible.**
* You absolutely NEED to get permission from the Fachstudienberatung to make sure your internship will be honored. Find the necessary paperwork [here](https://mcs.phil2.uni-wuerzburg.de/master/current/internship/).
* Find a lab for the Internship outside of Germany but within the EU on your own OR check internship offers [here](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/international/studieren-im-ausland/praktika/praktikumsboerse/).
* You should get an internship agreement, which you can find [here](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/fileadmin/32020000/Auslandsamt/Auslandsstudium/Praktika/Formblatt_Praktikum_EN.pdf).
