# Overview # Overview
Do you want to study abroad in Europe or somewhere else in the world? Do you want to study abroad in Europe or somewhere else in the world?
Students of MCS and HCI are welcome to participate in Erasmus+ or one of the other exchange programmes of the University of Würzburg! Please find [here](https://www.informatik.uni-wuerzburg.de/studium/auslandsstudium/faq-outgoing/) the `FAQ Outgoing` Web page from the Informatik Institute and below more information for HCI-related Students.
Please note that organising an international exchange can require up to one year of advance planning. Students of MCS and HCI are welcome to participate in Erasmus+ or one of the other exchange programmes of the University of Würzburg!
The MCS degree programme recommends a stay abroad after the **4th or 5th semester.** This means that the search for information and planning should ideally begin after the **2nd semester.** Please note that organising an international exchange can require up to one year of advance planning.
A so-called semester off ([Urlaubssemester](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/studium/studienangelegenheiten/beurlaubung/))at JMU Würzburg should also be taken for a stay abroad. The MCS degree programme recommends a stay abroad after the **4th or 5th semester.** This means that the search for information and planning should ideally begin after the **2nd semester.**
ECTS points earned abroad can be credited to the MCS and HCI degree programmes, if applicable. A so-called semester off ([Urlaubssemester](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/studium/studienangelegenheiten/beurlaubung/))at JMU Würzburg should also be taken for a stay abroad.
If ECTS points are credited for compulsory modules, there must be a large overlap of content with the compulsory module. ECTS points earned abroad can be credited to the MCS and HCI degree programmes, if applicable.
There is more leeway with ASQ ( [Allgemeine Schlüsselqualifikationen](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/spo/aufgaben-und-arbeitsbereiche/studien-und-pruefungsordnungen-promotions-und-habilitationsordnungen/pool-der-allgemeinen-schluesselqualifikationen-im-bachelorstudium-asq-pool/) - General Key Qualifications and electives. If ECTS points are credited for compulsory modules, the content of those modules must overlap greatly.

The subject advisor can confirm whether a course can be credited upon submission of a description of the course. Especially in the case of electives (Wahlpflicht - see your FSB - e.g. [Bachelor MCS's FSBs](https://mcs.phil2.uni-wuerzburg.de/bachelor/current/) or [Master HCI'FSBs](https://mcs.phil2.uni-wuerzburg.de/master/current/), ECTS can also be credited for courses that have something to do with computer science, psychology or design in the broader sense.

There are two ways to organize a trip abroad. One is considered a free mover. As a free mover, you have to organize everything yourself. On the other hand, is the ERASMUS program. There you can apply for study trips and will get some financial help. You can find general information about this on the [International Office site](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/international/studieren-im-ausland/allgemeine-informationen/).

- **`Important`**: No matter if you go through the ERASMUS or Free Mover way, you **NEED** to clarify with the Fachstudienberatung or Prüfungsausschuss if you can get course credit for the courses you take abroad. Even if it seems like it's a course that is identical to one in your program here, it's crucial to still make sure you can get the credit BEFORE you go. There are two ways to organize a trip abroad. ## Free Mover (PROMOS) for outside EU or ERASMUS
We will now go over the two ways:
- As a free mover it is much harder to organize your trip. You will need to find and apply for a program yourself, pay for your tuition and make extra sure that you can get course credit.
- As long as you are still enrolled at JMU you can apply for PROMOS, when going to a country that's not in ERASMUS. You will have to organize your program and studies yourself, but can apply for [PROMOS](https://www.uni-wuerzburg.de/en/international/studieren-im-ausland/promos-scholarship/) funding. ## Free Mover (PROMOS) for outside EU or ERASMUS
* NOTE: PROMOS can also be applied for if you do your internship in the Masters in a foreign country.
