#ATHEN DSAnnotatingView
If you want to annotate speech information, ATHEN offers the Direct Speech Annotating View. This tutorial will show, how to use it.
First of all, switch to DSAnnotatingView:

##Opening a document in DSAnnotatingView
To open a document in DSAnnotatingView, doubleclick the desired document on the left side of ATHEN (If you don't know how to import documents to ATHEN, please refer to the guide <ATHEN -Importing data>):

Then your document will be opened in the editor. If you did not do any preprocessing, there won't be any annotations; you will only see a text.
##Annotation
To start annotating speech it is essential, that named entities (NEs) are annotated as well (If you don't know how to annotate NEs, please refer to the guide <ATHEN -Annotating Coreferences and Character References>). These annotations will appear as green boxes:

###New Annotations
To create an annotation, mark the respective string(s) and click "New Direct Speech" on the right side of DSAnnotatingView:

Then your annotation will be marked in the editor:

###Speaker and SpokenTo
To annotate speaker and spokento, singleclick in on of your annotated speeches in the editor. Then doubleclick on the respektive speaker on the list on the right and/or the respective spokento. After clicking again on your annotated speech, speaker will be surrounded red and spokento will be surrounded blue:
